SHAVER LAKE, Fresno County — Thursday, October 22, 2026. The National Weather Service Hanford office has extended a Winter Weather Advisory until 5:00 p.m. Pacific Thursday across the higher Sierra Nevada, naming Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake and several destinations in and near Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks.
The updated bulletin was released at 10:28 a.m. October 22 and forecasts up to two additional inches of snow across its covered elevations. Bridges, overpasses and mountain roads may become slick and hazardous. That forecast is not a measured report of snow depth at every location.
Which Sierra communities and park destinations are included?
The advisory covers Yosemite National Park outside the valley, the upper San Joaquin River region, Kaiser to Rodgers Ridge, Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park and the southern end of the Upper Sierra. NWS specifically lists Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Wawona, Florence Lake, Cedar Grove, Lodgepole, Giant Forest, Johnsondale and Devils Postpile among covered places.
What should drivers expect?
The main concern is slippery surfaces that may be icy or snow-covered, especially at higher elevations and on shaded roads. Slow down, increase stopping distance and check conditions through Caltrans QuickMap. The NWS bulletin does not confirm that any specific park entrance, road or visitor center is closed. For public land operations, use the corresponding park’s official status updates.
Did the snow cause a power outage?
No electric-service outage is confirmed in this winter-weather bulletin. Power problems would require separate verification from the serving utility. A snowfall forecast does not establish a utility failure.
What happens after 5 p.m.?
At the time of the 10:28 a.m. update, the advisory was scheduled to expire at 5 p.m. Thursday, October 22. Conditions may change and new bulletins may be issued. Review NWS Hanford’s official latest warnings and forecast before travel.
